A thousand years of the Mercy of God

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with Rastafari is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. II Petros 3:8 ( as translated by King James)

11 September 2007 is 1 Miskaram 2000 of the Ethiopian calendar. Rastafarians regard the existence of another calendar supposedly dating from the birth of Christ- yet in reality imposed on Christendom by the Pope- as further proof that the West is that kingdom of Daniel's Prophecy, and revealed as Babylon in the Apocalypse of Yohannes.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time - Daniel 7:25

Should one be amazed how the world around one can actually provide more solid conviction than the Bible of the fundamental teachings of the Rastafarian Faith?

Yet, when the day of the Advent of the Millenium arrived, I could not go out there and celebrate with others. I still don't know if there are any Zimbabwean Rastafarians who have celebrated the occasion.

Instead of great joy, I was hung up, overcome by great depression and misery. Well, Zimbabwe is a pretty depressing place at the moment. But the occasion was one for me to reflect that even if democracy returned to my country and the tyranny occupying it packed its bags, I would still be sitting in my room feeling sorry for myself.

In looking forward to this day, I had hoped to celebrate it with my family- as in wife and kids. Fat chance of that, I can't think of a single female in my circle who even knew that it was the Millenium. There are a lot of things that I haven't achieved by the date that I said to myself I would, but nothing can compare with the sorrow of solitude on a day that is meant for families. I really looked forward to picking up my daughter or son and explaining to them that this was our millenium.

So, it has been business as usual. In the single week, I achieved much- acquired property, bought in to a business, finished another book.

It may not be our millenium yet, but it certainly is beginning to look like mine.

Blessed be the Most High Deity Rastafari Haile Selassie for this Millenium, and may He grant all Rastafarians the power and the ability to perform works in it to His glory. Yihun inji. Amen.
